Peer Mentor Applications ($500 scholarship!)

CEM Peer Mentors work with incoming first-year CEM students to help them integrate into UND and the College with the goal of improving both achievement and retention and receiving a $500 scholarship for their efforts. You are encouraged to consider applying if you are enthusiastic about UND and CEM and are interested in helping new students be successful. The application for the 2023 CEM Peer Mentor program can be completed at the link below. Applications are due by Wednesday, May 10, to Dustin McNally (dustin.mcnally@und.edu). Mentors are primarily on-campus undergraduate students who have experience taking first-year courses at UND, but also there will be a few online student mentors selected as well.

Grand Challenge Scholar Program ($500 per semester and up to $6000 in program support!)

We are looking for highly motivated on-campus freshman and sophomore students to take on the National Academy of Engineering’s Grand Challenge Scholar Program. Students in the Grand Challenges Scholars Program complete extra-curricular experiences to achieve five competencies: Talent (research or creative project experience), Multidisciplinary, Viable Business/Entrepreneurship, Multicultural, and Social consciousness (through service learning). Students develop their own path to achieve these competencies while being mentored by faculty throughout their undergraduate career. Students in the program focus their experiences on the 14 Grand Challenges of Engineering through the NAE Grand Challenges for Engineering themes of health, sustainability, security, and joy of living. Students that are accepted into this program will take classes outside of their major, such as in entrepreneurship or courses relevant to their Challenge, perform research on-campus with a faculty member over a few semesters, work on a Multicultural aspect (such as Engineers Without Borders), and complete Service Learning (tutoring) at UND. This program will take about 2.5-3 years to complete, so applicants should have that much time left in their undergrad (graduate students are not eligible). Application is due Wednesday, May 10.

Please consider taking the survey linked below to provide student feedback to the College of Engineering and Mines about your experience in CEM. The survey will only take a few minutes and you can be entered for a prize drawing to win your choice of either a $50 Amazon gift card or one of the numerous golf balls that Mr. McNally has hit a Hole-In-One with. Any feedback you have is greatly appreciated and will help us continue to improve our programs. This survey is open to all CEM students and will close on Wednesday, May 10, with a winner being selected soon after.
