News and notes from UND's Chester Fritz Library

Open Educational Resources

UND faculty and staff have done amazing work with OERs. We started working with them in 2015; in just 4 years, we’ve saved our students a cumulative total of approximately $8.5 million! Now, we’re doing even more. Thanks to the efforts of our student government, each NDUS institution was eligible for up to $15,000 for work with OERs; UND was awarded the full amount. Then Provost DiLorenzo generously stepped in with another $50,000, giving the OERs Working Group $65,000 to support OERs at UND. We called for proposals, and to our delight, received a record number – 22 so far, with inquiries still coming – from every UND school and college! The OERs Working Group met and funding is being allocated. Faculty who receive grants will attend a workshop at which they’ll get information and assistance on everything from video captioning and other technical software support to finding excellent OERs for their topics to copyright and licensing and more. Stay tuned!
