Summer construction kicks it into high gear on UND campus

If you’re planning to come to Orientation or make another campus visit this summer, you may want to give yourself a little extra time to get around.

The construction season is in high gear, and UND’s Director of Construction Management Brian Larson says not since the 1920s and again after World War II has the University had so many projects going on at the same time.

That’s not to say you can’t get around safely. You just might need to follow a few orange cones before you land at your destination. All routes will be clearly marked, but you also can stay up to date by subscribing to the project blog.

Construction plans include major roadwork along University Avenue and parking lots, a new steam plant and student Memorial Union, plus renovations at the Chester Fritz Library and Gershman Center.

“It’s a short construction season up here, so we have to do a lot of work in a short time,” Larson said. “Our goal is to have the University Avenue roadway reopened to traffic prior to move-in weekend in August.”
