Early Hawk gets the worm
The early Fighting Hawk catches more than just worms. Students who take care of their University of North Dakota business now — rather than a month or two later — have the best chance to catch scholarships and the first choice of housing and courses for fall 2022. Here’s what your student needs to do now:
- Complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid at studentaid.gov. They’ll use 2020 income tax info, so they already have everything they need. (Except maybe UND’s code, 003005.)
- Every student should FINISH THE FAFSA. The calculation used to determine what aid your student is eligible for includes more than just income from you — don’t assume your student won’t be eligible for aid! Most people qualify for some type of aid, including low-interest federal student loans. The priority deadline for filing the FAFSA is Feb. 1.
- Confirm their enrollment for fall 2022 by making the $200 nonrefundable confirmation deposit, if they haven’t done so already. This is a down payment — not an additional charge — that’s applied to their first tuition payment. Your student is required to confirm enrollment before registering for classes. The sooner they do it, the more choices they have.
- Apply for housing. All first-year freshmen are required to live on campus for their first full academic year or receive an approved exemption. Quickness counts. Students who apply by the Feb. 1 priority deadline will get dibs on the first round of residence hall selection.
Your student also can get a jump on meeting friends by joining the UND Class of 2026 Facebook group.
