A coronavirus (COVID-19) walk-up testing event for the general public is set to take place from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 4, at the University of North Dakota (UND) High Performance Center, 2419 2nd Ave. N., in Grand Forks.
Testing will also take place Tuesday, Sept. 8, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at UND. As always, check out the UND COVID-19 Updates blog for the latest information on testing dates and times.
The testing events, administered by UND, Grand Forks Public Health, the North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) and with support from the North Dakota National Guard, are key to increasing surveillance of COVID-19 in the community. Ages 5 and older are welcome to participate, even if you do not have symptoms. These are point-in-time tests. If a person was tested in the early stages of the infection while incubating the virus or exposed to the virus after they were previously tested, they could then later test positive for COVID-19. Therefore, those that have previously tested negative are invited to be tested again.
UND students who take part in the testing events will once again be entered into a drawing for a chance to win $500 gift cards from the UND Bookstore.
Following a recommendation of Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator who recently visited North Dakota, UND leaders request that students consider remaining in Grand Forks over the upcoming Labor Day weekend. The recommendation was made to reduce the risk of spreading the virus to students’ hometowns as well as to the Grand Forks community when students return.
If you were identified as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case and do not develop symptoms it is recommended to get tested. Testing is ideal, 7-10 days after last known exposure. If you are found to be negative, you still need to fulfill your quarantine period, as it can take up to 14 days to develop COVID-19.
