The Department of Labor has announced a proposed increase to the salary threshold for employees to be
exempt from overtime laws. The proposed salary threshold will increase from $23,660 per year/$455 per week to $47,476 per year/$913 per week (with some exceptions). This proposed change is anticipated to be effective as of December 1, 2016. In preparation for this change, Human Resources, with input from VPs/Deans/Departments, will re-evaluate positions not meeting the new salary threshold to determine future overtime eligibility.
Human Resources will be presenting basic information regarding how the changes may impact employees at UND; what the new salary threshold means, why a position might change from exempt status to non-exempt status and what that entails.
