Slow thawing begins in the southern valley

The National Weather Service issued a report on March 19, noting that an initial slow thaw has begun in the far southern basin of the Red River Valley.

The slow thaw process is expected to continue through late March, though the recent cool-down will stall thawing. “Action stages” have been reached on the South Dakota and Minnesota border, and temperatures are expected to be within normal ranges over the next two weeks.

The Grand Forks Herald provides additional information, including that flooding is still expected in the Grand Forks region, and preparations are being made for a Top 10 or Top 5 flood.
