Grand Forks high school student working with SMHS Epigenetics Working Group wins honors at science fair

Shri Patel, a student at Red River High School, was one of several Grand Forks Public Schools students to take home awards at a statewide science competition last week. Patel’s poster, entitled “Epigenetic Targets in Longevity Control in Drosophila melanogaster (Common Fruit Fly)” won the second-place prize in the senior division sweepstakes. The award is notable for the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS) because Patel completed¬†her project in the laboratory of Alexei Tulin, PhD, professor in the SMHS Department of Biomedical Sciences, and with UND’s Epigenetics Working Group using the group’s NSF grant funding. A brief article on the award can be read here¬†(photo courtesy Lorraine O’Shea/Grand Forks Public Schools). Congratulations!
