Tyler Van De Voort to give Surgery Grand Rounds on guns in America Feb. 21

Tyler Van De Voort, M.D., a PGY-III resident in the UND Department of Surgery, will present a talk titled “Guns in America: The Surgeon’s Perspective” at Sanford Medical Center – Broadway in Fargo, N.D., from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The objectives of Dr. Van De Voort’s talk are to:

  • Describe the epidemiology of gun violence in the U.S.
  • List obstacles that make firearms research more difficult
  • Give an example of a public health initiative intended to reduce the mortality of gun violence
  • Describe the effects gun violence has on communities and how some populations are disproportionately affected
