Tyler Van De Voort to give Surgery Grand Rounds on brain and spinal injuries Sept. 8

Tyler Van De Voort, M.D., a PG-IV resident in the UND Department of Surgery, will present a talk entitled “Brain and Spinal Injuries – Evidence vs. Dogma” at the UND Medical Education Center, Room 140, in Fargo, N.D., from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The objectives of the talk are to:

  1. List the physiologic parameters that should be maintained in order to prevent secondary brain injury.
  2. List the criteria for clearing a trauma patient’s C-spine.
  3. Describe how to lower a patient’s intracranial pressure at the bedside.
  4. Describe when to obtain repeat imaging and when to start DVT prophylaxis for patients with intracranial hemorrhage
