Recognizing sentinel injuries and basic work-up for child physical abuse

Jada Ingalls, D.O., Sanford Children’s Child Abuse Referral and Evaluation (CARE) Specialist, will present a talk entitled “Recognizing sentinel injuries and the basic work-up for child physical abuse” via Zoom (https://und.zoom.us/j/490250938) from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021. All are welcome to attend.

The objectives of the talk are to:

  • Identify sentinel injuries that are indicative of physical abuse on the physical examination.
  • State the mechanism(s) of injury that cause each sentinel injury.
  • Order the appropriate labs and imaging to screen for physical abuse in children up to 5 years of age.
  • Identify injuries that require a report to child protective services to prevent subsequent physical abuse that may result in morbidity and mortality.
