Sletten named SMHS Director of Learner Research

The Office of the Senior Associate Dean for Medicine & Research at the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences is pleased to announce that Sarah Sletten, Ph.D., has accepted the newly created position of Director of Learner Research. In this capacity, Sletten will not only assume responsibility for the School’s Research Experience for Medical Students (REMS) program, but direct the fourth-year medical student research elective and the M.D./Ph.D. program, develop the proposal for a formal M.D./Ph.D. joint degree program, work with clinical department research advisors to promote clinical research opportunities for medical students, and work with SMHS residency programs and the Office of Faculty Affairs “to develop enrichment programs directed at enhancing research capacity among resident and student learners,” among other tasks.

“In this transition, I would very much like to acknowledge the work that Dr. John Watt has contributed over many years in managing both REMS and the MD/PhD program,” said Dr. Marc Basson, “and taking them to the level they have already achieved.”

Sletten begins the new position on May 15, 2021.
