The HOST Program

What is the HOST program?
HOST stands for Housing Our Students as they Travel. This program matches fourth-year medical students traveling across the U.S. for residency interviews with medical school alumni willing to provide lodging, transportation or general information regarding residency programs.

The program has operated for more than eight years and in that time has made 21 successful lodging matches through the generous support of SMHS hosts living in 28 U.S. states. The program’s average match rate is 40%.

“HOST was enormously helpful for our travel expenses,” noted Kacy Benedict, MD ’17, who in her senior year made a residency match with University Hospitals in Jackson, Mississippi. “Very helpful.”
