April is #StressAwarenessMonth!

Stress Awareness Month has been recognized every April since 1992. Learning to cope with our stress and finding healthy ways to deal with these situations can go a long way in living a healthy and positive life.

Remember to Practice the Big Three Stress Reducers!

1. DIET: Eat a diet full of fresh foods that help the body combat stress naturally. It is also wise to avoid stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine as they amplify stress and interfere with sleep.

2. EXERCISE: Try to get the recommended amount of exercise (30 minutes of moderate activity) five days a week. Exercise lowers blood pressure and is a healthy outlet for stress relief.

3. SLEEP: Not getting the proper amount of sleep makes it difficult to deal with stressful situations and can increase anxiety and depression. Establish healthy sleep hygiene to establish a calming nightly ritual. Turn off all electronics at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Reading or sleep meditations can help prepare your mind for a healthy night’s rest!
