ESSP PhD student Yuanheng (Eric) Xiong is doing field experiment in the North Pacific Ocean

Yuanheng (Eric) Xiong, a PhD student at ESSP is conducting a field experiment measuring the particle size distribution in the North Pacific Ocean. The experiment is part of Dr. Xiaodong Zhang’s ongoing research funded by NASA and NSF to understand how particles affect the light propogation in the ocean. Eric is onboard a research vessel operated by the Institute of Ocean Sciences under Fisheries and Oceans Canada. The cruise sails from Vancouver Island to the Papa station locateds at 50°N, 145°W three times per year, typically in Febuary, June and August. Along the way, the ship will stop frequently taking measurements from surface all the way to be bottom of the ocean. The route of the cruise is called Line P.
