DETAILS:
The NASA North Dakota Space Grant Consortium (NDSGC) is excited to host an after-school program for middle school girls in the spring semester of 2019. Participants will get hands-on with space science activities and work in teams on engaging projects. Girls will launch stomp rockets, fly spacecraft simulators, check out the UND space suit lab, work with female STEM role models, and much more!
The most exciting part is that the program is planned to end with a live contact with female astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS)!
Although not yet finalized, NASA is aiming for an April/May date for partners and their girls to speak to one or both female astronauts, Anne McClain and Christina Hammock Koch, on the ISS. The contact is planned to take place during the school day.
This opportunity is available through the NDSGC’s partnership with SciGirls, a PBS program which offers resources and media content focused on providing “Science Fun for Tween Girls.”
