NORTH DAKOTA SBDC HIRES NEW BISMARCK CENTER DIRECTOR

BISMARCK, N.D. – ND Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) is pleased to announce the addition of Payton Tivis to the network as the Bismarck Center Director offering assistance to the 10 counties within state planning region seven.

Payton Tivis

Tivis, originally from Bowman, ND, has several years’ experience in small business management, including time spent owning and operating his own business. He received his MBA from the University of Mary and has worked with both the SBDC and PTAC (Procurement Technical Assistance Center) organizations in the past as a client, so he knows first-hand the benefits these programs can offer.

“We are very excited to have Payton join our team,” says State Director, Tiffany Ford.  “His previous experience as a small business owner and his previous relationships working with our network and related organizations will be huge assets to his clients as they navigate their own path and the challenges associated with starting and running a successful small business. We look forward to having our Bismarck SBDC location returning to full-service offerings very soon!”

ND SBDC Center Directors provide business advising, technical assistance, and training to entrepreneurs and small business owners or managers in all facets of starting, managing, and growing a small business. In addition, they oversee administration and operations of their regional center, market the program, and represent the program at various functions and events. Relationships with regional stakeholders that provide referrals and advocate for the program are also a key responsibility.

“Staying in front of stakeholders can be a challenge during a period of transition in our offices because it is often one-person leading the efforts in a region. Payton has a very positive energy and is really enthusiastic about getting acquainted with all the partners in his service region,” says Ford. “I would encourage anyone that hasn’t connected with our Bismarck SBDC in a while to extend a welcome to him and have a conversation about how the ND SBDC can best serve the area in the near and long-term.”

ND SBDC is a statewide outreach program of the Center for Business Engagement & Development within the Nistler College of Business & Public Administration at the University of North Dakota. Since its inception in 1986, the ND SBDC network has helped business owners and entrepreneurs start, manage, and grow their small businesses through confidential, individualized, professional business advising and training workshops. Services are provided at no-cost to clients thanks to funding from U.S. Small Business Administration, ND Department of Commerce, and local supporters across the state.
