GF Air Force Base commander, UND president to speak at Veterans Day Ceremony

Ceremony at 1 p.m. Thursday at Gorecki Alumni Center will be held in-person and streamed live

A Veterans Day Ceremony at the Gorecki Alumni Center will highlight a week’s worth of tributes at the University of North Dakota in honor of America’s veterans.

Veterans Day Ceremony

On Thursday – Veterans Day, Nov. 11 – UND, UND ROTC and the UND Alumni Association & Foundation will sponsor a Veterans Day Ceremony to honor those who have served our country in war and in peace.

The 2021 Veterans Day Ceremony will be held on Nov. 11, at 1 p.m., at the Gorecki Alumni Center, 3501 University Ave. in Grand Forks. Cookies and refreshments will be available.

The event will be streamed live on the UND Alumni Association & Foundation website for those interested in watching virtually.

Speakers at the 2021 Veterans Day Ceremony will include:

  • UND President Andy Armacost, who served more than 30 years on active duty and 20 years at the U.S. Air Force Academy, retiring at the rank of Brigadier General.
  • Col. Timothy J. Curry, Wing Commander of the 319th Reconnaissance Wing, Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota.
  • Brandon Bochenski, Mayor of the City of Grand Forks.
  • DeAnna Carlson Zink, CEO of the UND Alumni Association & Foundation.

Other Veterans Day-related events

In addition to the Veterans Day Ceremony, various events will be held throughout the week to call attention to Veterans Day and UND’s military students.  Visitors are welcome to stop by any of these activities.

Tuesday: Visit The Link – the corridor space connecting Odegard and Streibel halls at the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences – from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. to enjoy a free cookie and pick up a Veterans Day poppy flower.  Available while supplies last.

Throughout the Week: Visit Columbia Hall’s South Entrance to view a Veteran & Military Art Display.

Visit the Memorial Union dining room to see the Missing Man Table.

Visit Wilkerson Dining Hall to see the Missing Man Table, an MRE (Meals-Ready-to-Eat) display and a dessert table dedicated to our Red, White and Blue.

Visit the Fast Facts signs that are displayed around campus.  These signs provide information about Veterans Day; participants are invited to find all 20.

See the display of more than 1,300 flags along the south side of University Avenue.  Each flag represents a military-affiliated student attending UND.
