It is with regret that we announce the death of Marci L. Purpur-Hecht, Administrative Secretary in the Information Resources Department, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, on Saturday, May 14, in her home. She joined the UND family in 1980, and worked for the University for more than 35 years. She was 54.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Burial will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery in Grand Forks. Arrangements by Norman Funeral Home.

Marci Lorraine Purpur was born Oct. 16, 1961, to Clifford and Mary (Schmid) Purpur in Grand Forks. She attended school in Grand Forks, graduating from Central High School. Marci was married to John Bemis in 1983 and had two children. Marci then went on to marry the love of her life, Bruce Hecht. Marci worked at the Rehabilitation Hospital in the Physical Therapy Department for two years before starting her 35 year career at the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences, where she was a dedicated Administrative Secretary. Marci was a strong, feisty nurturer who left her family too soon. She loved being around her family and friends. Marci cherished her family, enjoyed fishing, cooking, and caring for the family dogs.

Marci is survived by her husband, Bruce Allen Hecht. They had an extraordinary marriage and unwavering love for one another. What Marci took pride in the most was caring for her children.

Along with Bruce, Marci is survived by her four children, Mike Bemis, Stephanie (Ali) Bemis-Rood, Nick Hecht, Jenna Hecht and siblings, Cliff (Betty) Purpur, Dick (Kati) Purpur, Gary (Cindy) Purpur, Barb Purpur, Scott (Holly) Purpur, all of Grand Forks, Steve (Doreen) Purpur, Oakdale, MN and Bob (Sheri) Purpur, Green Bay, WI; several special nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Clifford “Fido” Purpur. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
