Staff Senate is pleased to announce that July’s U-Shine Award recipient is Emily Goodoien, Accounting Specialist– Student Account Services.  She was nominated by Kathie Howes. The nomination stated:

On June 7, 2016, Emily was driving to work and running late. As she drove down Gateway Drive she noticed a woman lying in the grass along the street. She passed by but watched in her rear view mirror to see if the woman got up or if any cars stopped. Neither happened so Emily drove around the block and stopped near the woman to assist her. The woman, a UND student, had been doing her morning run and stepped in a hole in the grass, twisted her ankle, and was unable to put weight on it. Emily asked if she needed medical assistance or could call anyone or take her anywhere. The student asked Emily to drive her to her car so she could get her keys to her dorm room in Noren Hall. When they arrived at the student’s car she was at that time able to put some weight on her ankle and assured Emily that she would be okay and for Emily to continue on to work. It is this act of kindness and humanity that drives me to nominate Emily for the U Shine Award.

The U-Shine Award is presented monthly to a UND staff member who goes out of his or her way to make UND a better place. All U-Shine Award winners receive a certificate and a $50 bonus, which is added to their next paycheck. For more information on the U-Shine Award, or to nominate a colleague,  click here.
