Nov. 15 Provost’s Forum focuses on Teaching Excellence Center

The first Provost Priorities Forum of AY16-17 was held on Monday, Oct. 31, 2016 to discuss the idea to administratively move Center for Instructional & Learning Technologies (CILT), Office of Extended Learning (OEL), and Office of Instructional Development (OID)  into a Teaching Excellence Center (or some such title).  I would like to thank all who attended the Forum, and for the excellent comments and discussion.  It is clear that we value all of our units who work on teaching and learning for UND.  It is also clear that there is more to do to promote the good work of faculty, staff and graduate students, and to enhance some new efforts (e.g., graduate student teaching seminars).

Prior to this first forum we met with a number of individuals and groups. We are continuing our “information seeking” mission and want to hear what you would like to see offered in this unit and what works well now. We would like to use this Center to highlight the excellent teaching that currently occurs and promote new ways of enhancing our teaching and learning.

A working group has been charged with developing a plan to create the Center with a unified mission focused on innovations and excellence in teaching and learning. Members of the working group include Gail Ingwalson (T&L), Anne Kelsch (OID), Lynette Krenelka (OEL), Lori Swinney (CILT) and Stephanie Walker (CFL).

A second forum has been scheduled to share the same information and discuss a Teaching Excellence Center.

                Tuesday, Nov. 15, 3-4 p.m., Education Bldg., Rm 113

If you were unable to attend the first session, I hope you can make it to this one.

If you are unable to attend either of the forums, a survey has been created to provide you with an opportunity to share your ideas related to the two main questions we focused on during the forum.   I ask that you complete the survey by Nov. 21.  Take the Survey.
