Geiger commences term as president of Society on Neuroimmune Pharmacology

At the annual meeting of the Society on Neuroimmune Pharmacology held this year in Philadelphia, Jonathan D. Geiger, Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, started his term as President of this international scientific society.

At this same meeting, both members of his laboratory who accompanied him won special awards. His first year graduate student, Leo Lakpa, was asked to present a special oral version of this poster titled “HIV-1 Tat induces acidic store operated calcium entry (aSOCE) in primary cultured neurons” and received a travel sponsorship. And his post doctoral fellow, Nabab Khan, was awarded the best poster award for his poster titled “APOE isoform-specific effects on Tat-mediated HIV-1 LTR transactivation in astrocytes” and received a complementary copy of the textbook “Neuroimmune Pharmacology.”

Next year the meeting of this society will be held in Chicago and for the first time will be held in partnership with the International Society of Neurovirology.
