May 5: Retirement reception for Curtis W. Stofferahn

Please join us for a retirement reception in honor of Curtis W. Stofferahn,  professor of sociology, on Friday, May 5, from 4-7 p.m. at the Grand Forks Masonic Center, 423 Bruce Ave.

At the University of North Dakota for the past 29 years, Dr. Stofferahn has distinguished service in the Sociology Department. As a rural sociologist, his research has focused on community and rural development, sustainable agriculture, cooperative conversions, and the social impacts of industrialized agriculture.  Dr. Stofferahn is published in Rural Sociology, Community Development, Agriculture and Human Values, Journal of Cooperatives, Journal of Sustainable Agriculture,  Journal of Cooperative Studies, and the Great Plains Sociologist. He is also a cooperative scholar at the Center for the Study of Cooperatives, University of Saskatchewan, which published his monograph on cooperative conversions.  He also served as council member and secretary of the Rural Sociological Society.

At UND, Dr. Stofferahn has served as director of the Social Science Research Institute, director of graduate studies, and most recently as chair of the department.  He has also been a senator and chair of the University Senate. He has been awarded the  North Dakota Faculty Spirit Award as well as the Thomas Clifford Achievement Award for Outstanding Faculty Development and Service.
