OLLI@UND seeks fall/winter presenters

OLLI@UND is seeking presenters for the fall/winter semester.

This fall, OLLI@UND will celebrate its 10th Anniversary.  OLLI began the spring of 2007 with 76 members and 10 classes.  After entering into a partnership with Bismarck State College in the fall of 2011, we now offer over 40 courses and activities during the Spring/Summer term and over 80 during the Fall/Winter term to 640 members.  OLLI provides its members opportunities for lifelong learning, social interaction, personal growth and rejuvenation.  When you present for OLLI, you will experience the same wonderful benefits!  Please peruse our OLLI’s Spring/Summer course catalog as well as past catalogs at http://und.edu/academics/extended-learning/olli/catalogs.cfm. By doing so, you will become more acquainted with the wide variety of OLLI offerings.

The type of offerings provided through OLLI are only limited by your imaginations.  OLLI members thirst for learning experiences – experiences you could share with an audience that will hang on to your every word.  Share your life’s work or share that passion that may have nothing to do with your career.  Offer a one-presentation or a multi-session class. You decide what works best with your schedule.

Questions you may have:

Am I compensated for my time?  For those who present a multi session course (3 or more), OLLI does offer a small stipend that is based upon the number of hours and the enrollment.  Many of our presenters waive their fee, considering it an opportunity for community service.  We do not offer a stipend for those presenting a one-time lecture.  Presenters who are UND employees are paid through UND Payroll.  Non-UND employees are paid as independent contractors.

What do OLLI members want to learn?  Astronomy and Space Science, Biology, Earth Sciences, Engineering and Technology, History and Philosophy, Social Sciences, Medicine/Health and Wellness, Spirituality, and Current Events.

Do I have to secure the classroom and provide the  a/v equipment?  No, OLLI takes care of that; however, we ask that you bring your own PC computer or a flash drive that includes your presentation.

Are all OLLI members UND/BSC Alumni?  Your audience will include Alumni as well as people from your communities with varying degrees of education and life experiences.

Will my offering be available to the public?  Oh yes, as long as they are OLLI members.

What are the dates?  Fall sessions will run from Tuesday, Sept. 5, to Oct. 20; winter sessions will begin Monday, Jan. 8 and go until Feb. 16.  Class times in the past have been 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m., and sometimes we have done 4:30-6:30 p.m. but only during fall and summer months.  It is completely up to you to offer a one-presentation or a three-six week multi-session course.

If I decide I want to teach, what is the next step?  I know many of you will be gone most of the summer and since our catalog goes to print in late July/early August,  I’m asking you to please send your course proposals to me prior to May 19.  In regards to the actual course proposal, all I need is a short description and title, time and day preference (we offer classes Monday through Thursday), and your complete contact information.  I do not need an outline or syllabus at this time.

I welcome your questions and/or concerns.  Please take a minute to contact me prior to May 19 regarding your level of interest.  I appreciate your time and consideration.

Thank you.
