Commencement regalia policy approved by President

A policy has been posted to the Finance and Operations Policy Office website (see New & Revised Policy Updates) for notification of approval. Policies that have gone through the standard development process become official after being signed by the president.

Acceptable Academic Regalia for Commencement Ceremonies – Signed April 24, 2017

In recognition of the significance of commencement, all University of North Dakota (UND) commencement participants must wear full academic regalia – gown, cap, tassel and, if appropriate to degree, a hood representative of the highest degree they hold/will be receiving. Academic honors-based and culturally-based adornments to the academic regalia (e.g., academic honor cords/stoles, affiliation-based cords, or culturally-based symbols) are permissible, and must be pre-approved to be appropriately recognized in the commencement program.
