Senior Jared Michel garners Academic All-District accolades

University of North Dakota senior sprinter/hurdler Jared Michel has been named to the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team, as voted by the nation’s sports information directors.

It’s the first such honor for Michel, a native of Chesterfield, Mo., who graduated earlier this month with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in applied economics. He carried a cumulative 3.96 grade-point average through the fall semester in his undergraduate studies and a 3.88 GPA in his graduate studies.

Michel distinguished himself both in the classroom and on the track during his career at UND. He was a three-time selection to both the Big Sky Conference Winter and Spring All-Academic Teams and was a multiple honoree on both the University’s Dean’s List and President’s Roll of Honor.

As a senior, Michel scored in both the 400-meter hurdles and the 4×400 relay at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championship. At the conference indoor meet, Michel was a member of UND’s 4×400 and distance medley relay teams that both ran the fourth-fastest times in those respective events in school history.

During his four-year career, Michel scored points for UND in the conference meet four times in the 400-meter hurdles and four times in relay events.

Michel now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team honorees will be selected later this month.
