Building demolitions begin Wednesday

As a part of the UND Campus Master Plan, the demolition of eight previously determined buildings on UND’s campus will begin on Wednesday, July 19. The eight buildings to be razed are:

  1. 314 Cambridge
  2. Strinden Center
  3. 2912 University Avenue
  4. 317 Cambridge
  5. Era Bell Thompson Center
  6. International Center
  7. Women’s Center
  8. Chandler Hall

Equipment required for the demolition will arrive on campus throughout the rest of this week and over the weekend. The demolition process will begin at the Strinden Center and move east across campus to each of these buildings with the exception of Chandler Hall. Demolition of Chandler Hall will occur in spring 2018.

The razing of each of these buildings has been vetted and approved by the State Historical Society of North Dakota as well as the State Board of Higher Education. As each building is removed, the sites will be seeded to return to green space until future plans are put in place through ongoing master planning efforts.

In continued honor of the contributions of Earl and Jan Strinden to the University of North Dakota, a segment of Stanford Road was renamed Strinden Road in May of 2017.

Please exercise caution as these operations take place and look for potential road and/or parking lot closures that may take place due to these events.
