Marley Kaul: Meditation Suite 2017 is now on exhibition at the North Dakota Museum of Art.
“I am seeking answers to questions surrounding existence itself. I am using forms of meditation to engage in a visual dialogue, using processes both ancient and contemporary, to experience a personal journey both true and beyond words. The paintings started as preludes to prayer or meditation. I am working with a close friend to develop breathing exercises and mental stability. This friend is an ordained Buddhist monk. Each painting has a one-word title and I hope it prompts the viewer into a meditative role. These paintings were completed between October 2016 and June 2017.” —Marley Kaul
Marley Kaul spent most of his working life at Bemidji State University teaching art and serving as Chair of the Department of Art. The exhibition opens Sunday, Aug. 13, and continues through Oct. 15.
