Oct. 20, 21: UND hockey hosts Minnesota in Grand Forks for first time in five years

For the first time since 2012, the University of North Dakota will host the University of Minnesota in a home hockey series at Ralph Engelstad Arena.  One of the most prolific rivalries in college hockey dates back to 1930, but the two teams have not played in Grand Forks since leaving the WCHA for new conferences.  To celebrate the return of this series, a number of special events have been planned for the weekend, including:

  • $25,000 guaranteed 50/50 raffle– The 50/50 raffle will have a guaranteed pot of $25,000 on Friday and Saturday night with a winner guaranteed to walk away with at least $12,500 each night.  A winner will be announced during the third period of each game.  Funds generated through the 50/50 raffle benefit the University of North Dakota Athletics Department.
  • Engelstad family puck drop- The Engelstad family will be in attendance for this important series and on Friday night a representative from the Engelstad family will drop the puck during a special pre-game ceremony.
  • Glenn “Red” Jarrett Ceremony- On Saturday night, Glenn “Red” Jarret will be honored during a pregame ceremony. Jarrett is credited with being one of the men directly involved with starting the UND hockey program and is considered one of the best athletes to ever play at the University of North Dakota. Jarrett was a three-sport star at UND and later became a three-sport coach as well as Director of Athletics.
  • Gigapixel photograph- World renowned photographer and North Dakota native Jim Blakeway will be in attendance to take a gigapixel of the fans during Friday night’s game. A gigapixel is the ultimate “selfie,” a high resolution 360 degree interactive photo that allows fans to zoom in and find themselves in the image.  This picture will be taken during the National Anthem and available for fans on the UND athletics Facebook page on Saturday, October 21. An example of a Jim’s work can be found at http://blakewaygigapixel.com/

Tickets for this series sold out in record time, but a few tickets do remain available on the secondary market.  To ensure you are purchasing tickets from a valid seller, Ralph Engelstad Arena encourages potential buyers to only purchase tickets through the Ticket Exchange network on Ticketmaster.com.  Tickets purchased through other second party resellers can’t be validated as authentic.
