Animal care per diem rates increase Jan. 1

The Center for Biomedical Research (CBR) animal care per diem rates will increase on Jan. 1, 2018.  This represents the second increase in a four-year cycle which, prior to the January 2016 adjustment, had not increased in over two decades.  As you are aware, the increases were determined after a comprehensive rate analysis was completed in 2015.

The mouse per diem rate will increase from $0.11 to $0.13, and the rat per diem rate will increase from $0.20 to $0.23.  When preparing grant applications, please budget for an annual increase in per diem rates of 18 percent (mouse) and 15 percent (rat).

CBR staff have worked very hard to keep per diem increases to a minimum and will continue to find innovative ways to control costs and keep rates as low as possible.
