March 28: Faculty lecture features John Fitzgerald with ‘Fitness is Not Just for Athletes, It’s For Your Health’

John Fitzgerald, assistant professor of kinesiology and public health, will present the fifth in the 2017-2018 Faculty Lecture Series.

“Fitness is Not Just for Athletes, It’s for Your Health” will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 28. A 4 p.m. reception will precede the lecture. The lecture is free and open to the public.  Free parking is available west of the Museum.

The recent Winter Olympics again reminded us of the importance of physical fitness for sporting success. Physical fitness not only gives athletes a competitive advantage but it also increases our chances of living a long and healthy life. Dr. Fitzgerald will identify how UND is leading the way in research on the health and performance benefits of physical fitness.  He will also discuss how each person can find a path to improved fitness even when you’re not an athlete!

Fitzgerald received his Ph.D. in kinesiology from the University of Minnesota. His research interests include the physiological factors influencing health and physical performance of athletes. He has conducted research with NCAA athletes across the U.S. as well as elite hockey players across the globe.

The Faculty Lecture Series seeks to cultivate a stronger academic atmosphere on the University of North Dakota campus by showcasing the scholarly research of faculty selected across the disciplines. The Lectures aim to present with some depth and rigor the scholarly questions and goals of the individual faculty member. In presenting their scholarship, the Lecturers will share the enthusiasm and dedication that sustains their research.

In 2017-2018, the Faculty Lecture Series continues through the funding of the Offices of the President and the Vice President for Academic Affairs and is presented through the planning of the Faculty Lecture Series Committee.
