To Dec. 19: STEM Cafe at Half Brothers Brewing Company

A new STEM Cafe series is starting up in town.

“Hopped Up on Science” will kick off Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. Hosted by  Half Brothers Brewing Company (all ages), the monthly meetings will feature a casual setting to learn about and discuss STEM topics. Each meeting will feature a talk by a local researcher and plenty of time for discussion.  Food and drinks will be available for purchase from Half Brothers. Speakers and talks for the fall semester include:

Aug. 15: Aaron Kennedy – UND Atmospheric Sciences – Beer’s Law: An exploration of light transmission through the atmosphere and beer


Sept. 19: Jay Boulanger – UND Biology – Oh deer! Implementing traditional and extreme measures for balancing deer populations in suburbia


Oct. 17: Phyllis Johnson – N.D. Senate Candidate, Chemist -What’s on the Menu for 2050? Population, Global Hunger, and Climate Change


Nov. 14: Rachel Navarro – UND College of Education and Human Development – Drafting Women and Minorities in Engineering: Broadening Participation


Dec. 19. Joe Vacek – UND -Droning on about drones. The science and policy of unmanned aircraft
