Remembering Eleanor Wilde

Eleanor Wilde, retired staff member at the Chester Fritz Library, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018 in 4000 Valley Square-Woodside Village, Grand Forks. She was 89.

Eleanor Anna Scheuring, the daughter of Peter and Louise (Fettes) Scheuring, was born  on May 30, 1929 in Woodstock, Minnesota.   She attended Barney Township County School for eight years and then four years at St. Francis Academy, Hankinson, N.D., where she graduated in 1947.  She was employed in Wahpeton, N.D.,  at Kelley’s  Café and Montgomery Ward.

On Feb. 22, 1949, she married Edwin Wilde at  St John’s Rectory  in Wahpeton.  They later moved to Grand Forks where she was employed by Gambles, Minnkota Power Co, and the Bronze Boot.

She joined UND’s Chester Fritz Library, where she worked for 27 years until she retired on Sept. 30, 1991.  She later volunteered for more than 8,000 hours at United Hospital and Altru Clinic.

Eleanor was a member of the Senior Citizens,  Bonnet Bells Homemakers, Royal Neighbors of America, St. Michael’s Altar Society, the VFW and was a Life Member of the DAV.   Eleanor served on the board of the Children’s Advocate Center.

Survivors include:  her sons, Scott  (Sheryl) Wilde, Thompson, ND, and  Jeffrey (Kristin) Wilde, Thompson, ND, Linda (Russ) Penn, Grand Forks, and Vickie Lee, Warren, MN;  9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren;  siblings, Richard and  Freda.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edwin; twin sons, Danny and David; sisters Agnes and Aletha; a brother, Mark.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27,  in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass in the church. Interment will be in Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks.
