DUO authentication will be required for Office 365 on Feb. 1

Safeguarding UND Internal & Tagline@600px-whiteStarting Feb. 1, all faculty and staff will be required to use multi-factor authentication (MFA) using DUO security for Office 365. Students will be required to use MFA for Office 365 before the end of the Spring 2019 semester. Office 365 includes Email, OneDrive, Teams, and other Microsoft applications in the Office 365 suite.

As part of the Safeguarding UND initiative, MFA will be implemented university-wide to further protect application data, intellectual property, and user accounts. While a single authentication method helps decrease data loss and system vulnerabilities, the risk of compromised accounts by phishing is still too high. Currently, all faculty and staff are required to use MFA for HRMS (payroll, W2), PeopleSoft Finance, and Campus Connection. Office 365 will be added to the growing list of applications to be protected.

Early enrollment for DUO MFA for Office 365 is now open. To self-enroll, please visit the University Information Technology (UIT) site, https://www1.und.edu/uit/.

Once enrolled or starting Feb. 1, you will only be prompted for DUO MFA when you log in to an Office 365 application or email from your computer or mobile device. You may also be prompted for DUO if it’s been 60 days since your last log in.
