Nov. 16: Lotus Meditation Center provides two talks on mindfulness

The Lotus Meditation Center will hold a public talk Friday, Nov. 16, 7:3-8:30 p.m., exploring mindfulness centered on the body as a way to ease stress and connect more deeply to our lives. There is no charge, and it is open to all.

The Buddha said, “There is one thing that when cultivated and regularly practiced, leads to deep spiritual intention, to peace, to mindfulness and clear comprehension, to vision and knowledge, to a happy life here and now and to the culmination of wisdom and awakening. And what is that one thing? It is mindfulness centered on the body.”

Lotus Meditation Center will also offer a weekend silent retreat, “The Body as Dharma Gate,” by Bridget Rolens, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17-18.

On Sunday, Nov. 18, at 10:30 a.m., Rolens will present “Living Mindfully.” The practice of mindfulness is not limited to formal meditation. It is meant to be a way of living. The Buddha’s instruction on mindfulness of bodily activities gives us a way to be more fully present to our lives and aware of the underlying motivations of our actions. This awareness can help us avoid actions that cause harm to us and others, and speak and act in ways that nurture us and others. A vegetarian meal will follow the talk. There is no charge, and it is open to all.

All events will be held at Family of God Church, 327 5th Ave. SE, East Grand Forks.

For more information and to register for the retreat contact Kristen Borysewicz at und.lotuscenter@und.edu or 701-777-4647.
