Chester Fritz Library renovation update

Renovation preparations have begun at the Chester Fritz Library.

We are close to a finalized plan – just a few minor things to complete – and have begun building temporary walls to block areas that require extensive work and undertaking asbestos abatement in 6 large areas, including the Reading Room. Most art has been removed, to avoid damage, and stored in the UND Art Repository in Skalicky (thanks to Sarah Heitkamp, UND Art Conservator), though the largest pieces are temporarily housed in the Core Library.  Both Skalicky and the Core Library are climate controlled.

Updates are posted weekly on our Library Renovation blog, and we’ll continue to have “Library Update” newsletters each term too.  We’ll also get word out via periodic emails, notices on digital signage, posters, and many other paths.  We’ll be working with Marketing on communications as well.

There will be noisy times, but a) there will always be some quiet areas in the Library, and staff can help you locate them, and b) we’ll be open as usual, offering normal library services, and won’t close for a single extra hour.

If anyone has any questions, please contact any of us at CFL.  Thank you!
