UND, Mayo Clinic team up to produce workshop on making low cost task trainers

Tim Shea, CHSOS (Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist), Simulation Coordinator for the School of Medicine & Health Sciences (NDSTAR) Simulation Center, presented at the Society for Simulation in Healthcare’s Annual International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare in San Antonio, Texas on Jan. 26–30. The International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare is a scientific conference that explores the latest innovations and best practices in healthcare simulation. The event had more than 3,000 attendees from 56 countries. It is the premier professional society for healthcare simulation experts, where educators, researchers, developers, and clinicians are able to collaborate and network with their peers around the world.

Shea co-presented in the workshop on “Become a SimVentor: Build 4 Inventions to Improve your Simulations” with Amy Lannen, and Jesse C. (Conrad) Dove, both from Mayo Clinic Simulation Center in Jacksonville Florida. This course guided participants through the key stages of the design and development process of creating Low Cost Task Trainers.

Tim also presented at the SimVentors Showcase. He has created an innovation for Tracheal Suction in the Simulation Center. His presentation was titled: “Developing a life-like manikin-safe Tracheal Suction Device for under $5.” This device allows for a very rapid setup and cleanup of training scenes while still making it very medically realistic and reduces the potential for damage to manikins.
