May 7: Retirement reception for Loren Liepold

Please join members of the Theatre Arts Department, the UND community and others from around the area to honor Loren Liepold for his 29 years of service to UND. A reception celebrating Loren’s exceptional UND career will be held on Tuesday May 7,  from 1 – 3 p.m. in the Burtness Theatre Lobby.

Loren began his UND career in 1990 as the Technical Director for the Department of Theatre Arts. During his career at the University, Loren has worked as a Technical Director, Sound Designer, Production Manager and Event Designer for over 150 productions in live technical theatre. Loren has received several awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. His most recent award was for the Sound Design for the 2018 production of Mr. Burns. He also was honored for his work on How I Learned to Drive. As the Department historian, Loren was responsible for maintaining 12,000+ documents and artifacts, as well as digitizing about 17,000 two dimensional items, and working with UND Special Collections to share the collection and the rich history of Theatre Arts at the University.

Loren has contributed to the university through many service activities during his career at UND. Loren was a founding member of North Dakota University’s System State Staff Senate. He served as a member of UND Staff Senate for seven years and president of UND Staff Senate for two years. He also served as a member and chair of the UND Loss Control Committee reviewing campus-wide safety, liability and security needs. Loren has also overseen the award ceremonies for Engineering, ROTC, and has helped with several Founder’s Day celebrations.  He received the UND Access Champion Award in 2006 for his outstanding efforts in improving handicap access at UND.

Please join us as we celebrate Loren’s career and thank him for his many years of service. We wish him well in adventures beyond UND.
