Feng “Frank” Xiao Receives Excellence in Review Award from American Chemical Society journal

Civil Engineering assistant professor Feng “Frank” Xiao was recently recognized by the American Chemical Society (ACS) as a 2019 excellent reviewer for his “extraordinary efforts to provide consistently scholarly and timely reviews on a large number of manuscripts.”

Dr. Xiao serves as reviewer for peer-reviewed manuscripts submitted to Environmental Science & Technology Letters (ES&T Letters) (2018 impact factor: 6.934). This honor recognizes reviewers “who have done a particularly outstanding job in quality, speed, and volume of their reviews.”

“It is my honor to be recognized by the editorial board,” Dr. Xiao said. “This is a recognition of my dedicated service and contribution to the environmental engineering and science community.”

ES&T Letters and its sister journal, ES&T, are generally recognized as top journals in environmental engineering and science. Dr. Xiao is one of the 12 Excellence in Review Awardees selected from hundreds of reviewers in 2019.

Dr. Xiao’s research focuses on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), carbonaceous materials, and water treatment technologies. He has been funded by NSF ($649,791), EPA (~$500,000), DOD ($170,000), and state and local sources. He has advised five M.S. students to completion and is currently advising four Ph.D. students, one M.S. student, and four undergraduate research assistants.
