Feb. 3: Aquatic ecology faculty candidate seminar will focus on social-ecological systems and big data

“Spatiotemporal dynamics of complex social-ecological systems and the utility of big data” by Mark Kaemingk will be presented on Monday, Feb. 3, at noon in 114 Witmer Hall.

Dr. Kaemingk received his Ph.D. in Fisheries Sciences from South Dakota State University, M.S. in Conservation Biology from Central Michigan University, and B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from South Dakota State University. He held a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biology, working in New Zealand at the Victoria University Coastal Ecology Laboratory.  He is currently a Research Assistant Professor within the School of Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Mark grew up in south central South Dakota, along the Missouri River, where he developed a passion for conserving and managing our natural resources.

Mark aims to improve the management and conservation of aquatic systems by challenging long-standing paradigms and educating future ecologists.  His integrated education and research program requires cross-disciplinary collaborations and novel approaches.  Mark’s overarching goal is to understand and share how cross-scale spatial and temporal processes interact to shape fish communities, fishing groups, and their environments.
