UND Writers Conference has been canceled

UND and the UND Writers Conference have been monitoring the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) closely. We have decided to err on the side of caution and cancel the UND Writers Conference, which was to be held March 25-27, 2020 at the North Dakota Museum of Art.

The UND Writers Conference brings nearly 2,000 people together from around North Dakota, the surrounding region, the US, and Canada over the course three-day event. Our Conference mission is to facilitate a social atmosphere that generally encourages friendly, informal interaction with people in close proximity, which is at odds with CDC recommendations to avoid close contact and practice social distancing during what has now been declared a global pandemic.

We do not do this lightly, as this will be the first time since the Conference’s founding in 1970 that we will be unable to hold the event. However, we believe that it is for the greater good of our attendees, our invited authors, and our broader community.

The Conference Director is already working with authors and agents in the hopes that they will be able to come to campus in Fall 2020. And, of course, the UND Writers Conference fully intends to continue with our annual event in spring 2021 “Roots to the Earth,” March 24-26, 2021.

We thank you for your patience, understanding, and support in this quickly changing time. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Dr. Crystal Alberts, UND Writers Conference Director at crystal.alberts@und.edu.
