The Office of Student Finance is pleased to recognize Kayleigh Veerkamp, from Dining Services, as the 2020 UND Student Employee of the Year. This recognition highlights the outstanding students employed part-time at UND. Kayleigh was selected as this year’s honoree, out of a total of 27 nominations, by the Student Employee of the Year Committee.

Nominations are judged on the eight National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Core Competencies:

  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Oral and written communications
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Digital technology
  • Leadership
  • Professionalism and work ethic
  • Career management
  • Global and intercultural fluency

Please join us in congratulating Kayleigh’s outstanding display of the core competencies listed above. Kayleigh has worked in Dining Services for 2.5 years as Student Assistant Manager.  She manages over 30 student employees, and assists them in testing new ideas, overcoming challenges, and reviewing new information. Kayleigh was specifically recognized in her nomination by Edward Martin as a resource for both full-time employees and her student employee peers within her department.

“Kayleigh came into her position with the expectation of learning the human aspect of leadership and how to put people in the best position to be successful for the busines,” said Martin, Retail Operations Manager of Dining Services.

Kayleigh’s name will be added to the Student Employee of the Year Plaque and she will be awarded the $500 Student of the Year scholarship, courtesy of the Office of Student Finance. Her nomination has been sent to both the state and regional levels for consideration. Kayleigh is currently a senior and will graduate in the coming spring.

This award is usually presented at the annual Leadership Awards held in the spring. Unfortunately, due to the Social Distancing Initiative and resulting cancellation of events, the 2020 Leadership Awards have been canceled. The University of North Dakota and Office of Student Finance still recognize the extraordinary work and effort our student workers have put in throughout the year.
