UND previews “smart restart” return to campus

The University has published an early preview of the fall semester as it plans to reopen this fall.

“Our goal is to have a campus that operates safely throughout the semester, and as we see changes, both locally and nationally, we can make adjustments to the plan as necessary,” said President Andy Armacost.

In a series of articles in UND Today, UND’s official news source, the University launched the campus-wide conversation of the Healthy Hawks Smart Restart. Five stories offer glimpses of how campus will operate next fall.

From campus safety to academics, from student affairs to housing and dining, the stories report on how the UND community is planning for a safe return to campus, how safety levels guide decisions, and the specifics of physical distancing, technology, protective measures and sanitizing.

Safely opening campus, technology, signage, testing and more are the subjects of the second story, which describes how UND is making the campus as COVID-resistant as possible. Learn about the measures being taken to ensure campus safety.

Support for students and faculty is a top priority, as is ensuring mechanisms are in place for face-to-face and online teaching, the third story reports. Whether on-campus or online, UND’s goal is to help students learn and achieve.

As the University welcomes students, faculty and staff back to campus, events such as Welcome Weekend and new student orientation will ensure a great – and safe – experience, according to the fourth story.

And as noted in the fifth story, UND Housing, Dining, and Wellness services are making plans to ensure that on-campus students have a great semester.

“Our goal is a safe reopening, taking care of our students, faculty and staff, with particular attention on our most vulnerable on campus,” said President Armacost. “And we want to do so with a sense of community that is rooted in respect and empathy for all.”
