Remembering Joyce Stoltman

Joyce Mae Stoltman, retired Dining Services staff mamber, Grand Forks, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. She was 90.

Joyce Mae Paschke was born on Jan. 17, 1930, in Oslo, Minn., the daughter of Frank and Joanna (Misialek) Paschke. She attended school in Oslo and completed her studies at the Cathedral High School, Crookston, Minn.

On Sept. 21, 1948 she was united in marriage to Daniel Stoltman in Warsaw, N.D., and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1998. To this union two children were born, Wayne and Dean.

Together Joyce and Dan made their life in East Grand Forks and later in Grand Forks. Joyce believed in hard work. As a full-time mother she also worked at JC Penny, UND Dining Services and later at Border States.

Together they traveled to Spain, Barbados, Rome and many other places over the years. They also spent summers at Lake of the Woods enjoying fishing with their family. Joyce was an accomplished piano player and organist.

Joyce was known for her love of cooking and entertaining. She always had every holiday and special occasion at her home hosting large crowds as well as small family gatherings. Her baked beans, homemade buns, canned pickles and caramel rolls will be greatly missed by all. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks and volunteered her time as an organist, visitor of the sick, communion distributor, greeter and was active in several committees over the years.

She is survived by her two children, Wayne (Janice) Stoltman of Wichita, KS and Dean (Cherie) Stoltman of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Andy Stoltman and Shauna Stoltman; a great grandson, Bryce Stoltman; brother, Duane Paschke, Oslo, MN; a sister-in-law, Lois Stoltman, Grand Forks, ND; two brothers-in-law, Frank Stoltman, Minneapolis, MN, Edward Stoltman, Minto, ND and many cherished friends, neices and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel Stoltman on November 11, 2011; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Mrs. Frank) Stoltman, Mary (Mrs. Edward) Stoltman, Joann (Mrs. Richard) Stoltman and Audrey (Mrs. Duane) Paschke; brothers-in-law, Ernest Stoltman and Richard Stoltman.
