S/U grading option for Fall 2020

The provost’s office is providing some additional flexibility to our S/U grading policy for undergraduate students. These changes will allow the following:

  • Students can choose to elect a course to be graded S/U until Reading and Review Day (Dec. 11)
  • Freshmen students can opt for S/U grading
  • We will allow students more than the total 30 hour S/U grading limit
  • We will allow S/U grading to be chosen for courses in a major or minor

Please know that once students choose to elect S/U grading, the choice is NOT reversible. There are a few exceptions to this policy:

Student in the Nursing program are not able to elect S/U grading.

Students cannot elect S/U grading in Aviation flight courses.

S/U grading should not be elected where it may prohibit admission to professional programs.

If students would like to change a graded course (e.g., A, B, C) to an S/U course under these exceptions, they can do so beginning on Friday, Nov. 13. Here are the steps they should take:

  1. Talk to an academic advisor about the potential consequences of making this change
  2. Complete the request to change to S/U here. The link will also be available on the Registrar’s Office webpage.
