Remembrance is April 9 for Kathryn Thomasson, Chemistry

A remembrance will be held April 9 for colleague, friend, mentor and Professor Emeritus of Chemistry Kathryn Thomasson, or KAT, as she preferred to be called, who passed away Dec. 25, 2020. She was a great faculty member and cared about everyone. She was always accessible to graduate students both past and present, often making gifts to their children kids, and giving former students books, and never failing to send Christmas cards to all her past and present students.

KAT did not wish to have a formal memorial service, especially at the time of COVID. However,  many people miss her and we have decided to have a remembrance seminar on Friday, April 9, at 12:20 p.m. over Zoom. The Zoom link is provided below.

We are looking for stories of memories with KAT to share those with everyone, either written or over Zoom. We are also looking for photographs or any suggestions to pay tribute to KAT. Please send them to Alena Kubatova at alena.kubatova@und.edu.

Finally, some people asked if there would be an option to create some scholarships in Professor Thomasson’s name. We would welcome this idea as KAT had been deeply committed to students’ education.
