June 29 retirement party will celebrate Randy Pederson and Kerry Hackett

Please join the Chester Fritz Library (CFL) staff on Tuesday, June 29, at 10 a.m. in the 4th floor conference room at the Library, for a retirement party to celebrate the careers of Randy Pederson, Head of Collections, and Kerry Hackett, Interlibrary Loan Specialist.

Randy received his Master of Library Science from the University of Minnesota in 1980, where he initially also worked in Reference and Interlibrary Loans (ILL).  Later that year, he joined CFL as a Reference Librarian. In 1991, he became a Computer Services & Reference Librarian; in 1998, as technology became an ever more important part of libraries, he became our first Head of Library Systems. As well as dealing with many major technology initiatives, he also took on the work of negotiating e-resource licenses with vendors. He also completed an MBA. In 2015, Stephanie Walker joined UND and realized Randy’s experience in licensing and collections-related work was ideal for the role of Head of Collections. He graciously accepted, and served in this role until his retirement. He was also active in the American Library Association (from which he received the Shirley Olofson Memorial Award, from the Junior Members Round Table unit) and the North Dakota Library Association, and his publication, “Research Collections in Microform,” is still being used today.

Kerry first joined CFL in 1997 as a temporary employee.  In 1998, she became a full time, permanent associate in Interlibrary loans. In September 2002, she became Head of ILL, supervising staff and students, and helping faculty and students find resources they need from all over the world.

Randy and Kerry would love to see folks they’ve worked with over the years. Please join us for cake and conversation, and in wishing Randy and Kerry well as they move on to the next phase and enjoy their retirements!
