Chester Fritz Library hosts faculty and staff open house Aug. 26, student open house Aug. 31

Renovation?  Transformation!

Have you visited Chester Fritz Library recently?  If not, you’re in for a big surprise – and we are offering informal, friendly Open Houses to welcome faculty, staff, and students.

Our renovations, which have been ongoing since November 2018, are complete, and the Library looks glorious. From its Grand Staircase to the Reading Room (aka Fish Bowl) to the beautiful new event space on the fourth floor to all the high tech spaces, this is like nothing you’ve seen in this space before.

And it’s not just new spaces – we have new partners and new services. Visit UIT’s 3D printing lab, or speak with their staff at the Help Desk on the first floor.  Stop by the new Knowledge Commons on the second floor, at the top of the grand staircase, and chat with our student peer research consultants and our librarians, or with one of our many partners. Try recording yourself in the One Button Studio, or relax in the beautifully updated Reading Room. One floor up, on the third floor, you can check out the amazing new group study rooms. Or maybe you’d like to visit the Artificial Intelligence/Virtual Reality Lab, and let your imagination roam as you consider the many ways you could incorporate VR or 3D scanning technology into your work. Also on third floor, you can visit our partners in the Writing Center. Finally, on the fourth floor, take a look at our renovated Archives reading room, or visit our beautiful new event space in Conference Room 406 (which can be booked for campus events at no charge).  There are many more things to see, and we’d love to have you visit.  No need to register in advance – just drop by!

Our open houses are:

  • Faculty and staff – Thursday, Aug. 26, 3-5 p.m.
  • Students – Tuesday, Aug. 31, 3-5 p.m.

Snacks and treats will be served in Conference Room 406. And later this year, we will also have a formal Grand Opening Oct. 22. Stay tuned!
