UND Athletics enjoys embarrassment of riches with four conference championships in same year

Saturday night, UND Men’s Basketball became the four major sport at the University to win a conference championship in one year. They joined Volleyball, Football and Women’s Basketball in earning Big Sky titles in 2016-17. UND Athletics.

The University of North Dakota Men’s Basketball Team, over the weekend, became the fourth UND Athletics’ program to win a Big Sky Conference championship in the 2016-2017 academic year.

Men’s Basketball joins UND Volleyball, Football and Women’s Basketball in winning their respective league championships. No other conference school has ever won four major conference titles in one year.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball now look to join their Volleyball and Football brethren in seeking a spot in the NCAA National Tournament. Both basketball squads are in Reno, Nev., this week, for the start of the Big Sky Conference Tournament.

The men carry the No. 1 seed into the tournament, while the women’s are the No. 2 seed. Conference tournament winners get automatic bids to The Dance!

The men’s first game of the tournament is set for 2 p.m., on Thursday, March 9. They will play the winner of the Portland State versus Northern Arizona.

The women will play No. 7 seed Portland State at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 8.
