Engineering dean candidates named

Finalists for College of Engineering & Mines deanship will visit campus Feb. 24-March 5

Three candidates for the Dean of the College of Engineering & Mines position at the University of North Dakota have been selected to participate in campus interviews.

Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members are invited and encouraged to attend the following open forums. CVs for each candidate can be found here.

Biographies were provided by each candidate.

Joseph Iannelli

Joseph Iannelli is a professor of Mechanical Engineering and an Associate Dean for International Programs at Washington State University. He has over 25 years of experience in higher education. Iannelli has served in a variety of leadership roles including Director of the Governor’s School for Manufacturing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), Director of the School of Engineering at Grand Valley State University, and Founding Director of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at WSU Tri-Cities. He has made contributions to internship and cooperative education programs, externally funded educational and research initiatives, and domestic and international corporate relationships. Iannelli holds a Diploma in Fluid Dynamics from the von Karman Institute, a BS/MS in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Palermo, and a PhD from UTK in Engineering Science, focused on Aerospace Engineering. A fellow of UK’s Higher Education Academy, he pursues success for students, faculty, staff, and communities.

 

Brian Tande

Brian Tande

Brian Tande is a professor of Chemical Engineering and the Interim Dean of the College of Engineering and Mines at the University of North Dakota. He has over 13 years of experience in higher education. Tande has served in a variety of leadership roles at UND including Chair of Chemical Engineering, Director of the Jodsaas Center for Engineering Leadership and Entrepreneurship and Associate Dean of CEM. He has worked to improve CEM’s distance programs, create opportunities for students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, and support the needs of North Dakota and the region. Tande, a native of Stanley, N.D., holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware and BS degrees in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry from the University of Minnesota. His work in industry and academia has led to numerous papers, patents, and the commercialization of several new products, including coatings used to combat healthcare associated infections.

 

Suzie Long

Suzi Long

Suzie Long is a professor of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering (EMSE) at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) with over 25 years of experience in higher education. She is currently Department Chair of EMSE, and previously served as the founding coordinator of the transportation-logistics program at Missouri Southern State University and director of continuing education at Pittsburg State University.  She has five degrees including a PhD in engineering management and systems engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla. Long is a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Management, among many honors. She has championed distance education at three universities and currently oversees the strongest distance graduate program in the UM System. Under her leadership, EMSE boasts the most diverse faculty and student bodies in the College of Engineering and Computing, has transformed its Ph.D. core courses and processes, and has dramatically increased student experiential learning through partnerships with industry and alumni.
